KSISA strives to be the primary resource center for those throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana affected by stroke.  We provide speakers and information on prevention and recovery to the general public and our survivors and families through local community events, health fairs, stroke clubs, support groups, etc

In the U.S., stroke is the 5th leading cause of death and number one cause of disability in the elderly population. Kentucky and Indiana have been identified as being in the “Stroke Belt” – a group of states in the southeastern U.S. with a higher incidence of stroke than the rest of the nation – due to a number of different environmental and lifestyle factors including smoking, high blood pressure, cholesterol levels, etc., and a lack of understanding in how to reduce or eliminate known risk factors, so time is of the essence!

KSISA welcomes support from our community members. We conduct several fundraising events such as the Heartstrings Dinner & Dance and the Extravaganza Tasting Event so that we may provide information on stroke to all those who request it. Our outreach programs include the Strides for Stroke Walk, which brings together survivors and the general public for a day of fun and learning.

KSISA has been in operation since 1999 in the Louisville, Kentucky area. Our office houses a stroke resource library where anyone is welcome to check out books and obtain educational materials. Our board meetings are open to the public February through November

Four years after we began operations, we recruited the one and only staff member KSISA has ever had the honor to employ. All of the educational events, awareness efforts, and fundraisers fall on the shoulders of our Executive Director. She was the one pulling the strings that keep our mission moving forward. Her endless efforts to garner support from the community does not go unnoticed. Without all of her hard work KSISA would not be what it has become in the 17 years (as of 2020) she has been with us. Her loyalty and enthusiasm is what brings people in to assist in our mission. She was a pleasure to work with as evidenced by our countless volunteers and dedicated Board Members. This organization has made an impact on so many lives in the Kentuckiana area and much of that has been from her unyielding desire to make a difference in our community. Thank you Carrie for all you did for the Kentuckiana Stroke Association and wishing you a happy retirement! You deserve it!
